Walmart Fulfillment, launched in February 2020, is a strategic initiative by Walmart to bolster its competitive position, directly taking on Amazon’s fulfillment services. It is a robust network owned and operated by Walmart, providing an efficient solution for brands selling on Walmart’s platform.

One of the major benefits for sellers using Walmart Fulfillment services is the access to premium services such as two-day shipping. This feature enhances product visibility and attracts more customers by offering expedited delivery options, providing a distinct advantage in the online marketplace.

By utilizing Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS), sellers have the option to store their inventory in Walmart-owned fulfillment centers. Subsequently, when a customer makes a purchase on Walmart.com, the WFS team takes charge of selecting, packing, and shipping the order on behalf of the seller. Additionally, Walmart manages customer service and returns for all orders fulfilled through WFS.

While Walmart’s physical stores are renowned for their focus on “everyday low prices” and affordable purchases, Walmart is shifting its focus towards a younger, urban, and more affluent customer base. With the acquisition of several high-end eCommerce portals, Walmart has expanded its product offerings to include luxury items like Rolex watches, Louis Vuitton handbags, and Chanel perfume. However, it’s important to note that Walmart’s rapid eCommerce development isn’t solely limited to luxury goods; the company is also diversifying its collection to encompass brands that were previously unavailable on Walmart.com.

Initially, Walmart Fulfillment Service was exclusively available to vendors already selling on the Walmart marketplace. Nevertheless, the service has gradually been extended to other marketplace vendors as well. As a result, those vendors who have been part of the Walmart marketplace for an extended period or have generated substantial sales volumes are now given priority for enrollment in the Walmart Fulfillment Service.

To access the Walmart Fulfillment Service through the Seller Center, applicants must ensure the following:

  • They possess a Marketplace ID.
  • They are currently a Marketplace vendor in good standing.

Walmart fulfillment offers several benefits for both the retail giant itself and its customers:

Faster Shipping: Walmart’s fulfillment services, such as its distribution centers and partnerships with logistics companies, enable faster shipping and delivery times for customers. This is particularly crucial in today’s competitive retail landscape, where fast delivery is highly valued by consumers.

Improved Inventory Management: Walmart’s fulfillment centers help manage inventory more efficiently. They can store products in strategic locations, ensuring that popular items are readily available for immediate shipping, reducing stockouts, and improving overall inventory management.

Enhanced Customer Experience: With faster shipping and reliable delivery, customers experience a higher level of satisfaction. This can lead to increased customer loyalty and repeat business, as shoppers are more likely to return to Walmart for their future purchases.
